The Gateway to Knowledge

Welcome to Big Sci Communications!

Welcome to Big Sci Communications. One of the first things people ask about who we are is, “Why Big Sci?” It originally came from Montana – Big Sky Country. We’ve incorporated science into the name because it’s at the core of what we do. But we’re not talking about dry and boring researchers in lab coats, working on projects that no one understands. We need to expand our definition of science.

The original root of the word comes from the Latin word scientia, meaning “knowledge.” The Greeks thought of knowledge as the primary way to describe the world and how it works. This is truly what we’re about: learning and inspiring others to learn. Beyond simply learning knowledge for its own sake, we try to connect new knowledge to the profound sense of  wonder in looking at the world around us. We have two branches that help us to do this.

Informal Education (Teaching/Tutoring):  Teaching is one of the most direct ways to communicate knowledge. We focus on informal education, which is education outside of the traditional classroom. We’re aiming to help  students become more comfortable with science, math, and writing. In addition, we build on these subjects to introduce study skills and help develop a larger plan for lifelong learning.

Communications Consulting: I work with companies to help them communicate more effectively with their target audiences. Specifically, I try to seek out projects that focus on educating the public about science. I’ve found that scientists don’t always communicate well with the general public, and marketing and PR professionals don’t always have a strong background in science. So I help to bridge the gap. I also work with companies to help them in their overall strategy. Sometime this means taking a step back and taking a good, hard look at what’s working and what’s not. Then we can move forward on a clear path towards effective growth.
